PERUTUSAN KHAS ANWAR IBRAHIM BUAT RAKYAT MALAYSIA MENJELANG PRU14

PERUTUSAN KHAS ANWAR IBRAHIM BUAT RAKYAT MALAYSIA MENJELANG PRU14

Beliau bersabar menerima penghinaan UMNO-BN sambil menumpukan perhatian memperkukuh jentera Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Anwar Ibrahim

Malaysia’s Election May Not Be a Done Deal After All (BLOOMBERG)

Malaysia’s leader is eyeing a rigged reelection. Trump will probably congratulate him. (WASHINGTON POST)

MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER Najib Razak has some problems that might seem familiar to some in Washington. He gained office despite losing the popular vote. He has been unable to shake investigations on corruption charges despite firing a top law-enforcement official. His party has splintered over his leadership. Now, on May 9, he must face voters again.

A strategic electoral upset in the making in Malaysia?

While the Barisan National keeps losing the popular opinion, and in due course, the popular vote, the Alliance of Hope is in a commanding lead in several states and is inching towards victory at the federal level in Malaysia

Malaysia: a case study for democracy in retreat (via FINANCIAL TIMES)

Yet on Wednesday, Najib might just lose the election. Social media are giving an uncensored view of the campaign. The sight of Mahathir racing around the country, addressing big crowds in remote towns at midnight, has electrified people, says Nair. Mahathir and Anwar have impeccable pro-Malay credentials and, anyway, most urban Malays won’t simply vote ethnically. A lot of them feel Najib has broken the cardinal rule for autocrats: don’t steal too blatantly.

Has PAS Become A Cult of Hadi Awang ?

Hadi Awang affirmed that he has “often met with Prophet Muhammad in his dreams.” Such theatrics are delivered with the goal to redeem the now mortally wounded PAS.When PAS resorts to cult-like behavior to retain the loyalty of the rank and file members, that party is way over it’s head.

By Mustaqim Abdullah

A cult is defined by the perpetual worship of the single authority at hand, irrespective of the gender of the leader. In the case of Hadi Awang, the president of PAS has been mouthing some very strange things over the last few days.

When Nik Omar, one of the better sons of the late spiritual guru Nik Aziz agreed to join Amanah, indeed to compete for office in Chempa, Kelantan, Awang Hadi had him summarily sacked on April 27.

But what was more shocking was not the dismissal. Rather it was the explanation offered by Hadi Awang that came after. According to Hadi Awang, the late spiritual guru Nik Aziz appeared to him in a dream, though hobbled and only left with one leg.

No one knows if Hadi Awang had been reading the works of Sigmund Freud or Carl Jung, two of the earliest psycho analysts, but the use of dreams of explain a certain event is quite jarring in some sense.

First, it established the grey zone where only Hadi Awang is right, and everyone else wrong. Second, it may also be a concoction or a sheer fabrication.

Just today, Hadi Awang struck again. Still reeling from the audio tape that the top echelons of PAS has received huge amount of money from Barisan National, a confession that came from Nik Abduh, younger brother to Nik Omah.

Hadi Awang affirmed that he has “often met with Prophet Muhammad in his dreams.” Such theatrics are delivered with the goal to redeem the now mortally wounded PAS.

At 160 seats, PAS knows that it cannot win any major seats, let alone 1/3 of them to be “KingMaker.” PAS’s best performance was 27 seats in 1999, due largely to the cross over of UMNO members to PAS, not as a result of Prophetic intervention as much as the backlash against the jailing of Anwar Ibrahim.

By sensationalizing any emotional and religious incidents, Hadi Awang plans to retain some semblance of strategic relevance left. In fact – by calling to the ghayb – Hadi Awang has found his bread-and-butter issue of the implementation of Sharia and its associated corporal punishments is not enough to stem the tide. Not to mention that ever since he started his courtship with Najib Razak, he has failed to deliver on substantive legislation to advance the hudud agenda. That point must not be lost on PAS members wondering whether their leader still has what it takes.

When PAS resorts to cult-like behavior to retain the loyalty of the rank and file members, that party is way over it’s head.

In fact, there is every likelihood that the process of revulsion of PAS has begun. Instead of projecting a sane, and saintly disposition, PAS has flipped 360 degree. It is now using religion by all means necessary to remain on top of it’s electoral roll.

The Self Destruction of PAS In the Works

UMNO – in looking to PAS as a spoiler in three way contests has made an assumption that PAS can deliver the votes necessary to clip Harapan candidates at their wings. But if that assumption proves to be false, May 9 will indeed be a day of reckoning for all involved.

I Went To Boarding School, Said Najib Razak

Thus, it is nothing short of strange, that Najib should use “British Boarding School,” which is meant to install discipline in a privileged environment anyway, to shore up his credentials as a fighter. At other times, his staffers have urged him to identify himself as a Bugis warrior. Yet when Mahathir invited Najib to various policy debates, the latter recoiled almost instantly.

By Mustaqim Abdullah

If caretaker Prime Minister Najib Razak does not have what Muhammad Ali the boxer called “the sting of the bee and the dance of the butterfly,” the former had better learn quickly.

In an interview to Bloomberg on April 26, Najib claimed that he was made of serious, indeed, sterner stuffings. His justification ? He had been to a British “boarding school.”

If this is the parameter of how tough one can be, Najib is way out his depth viz-a-viz the experience of his political opponents across the spectrum.

Although yet to be released, Anwar Ibrahim was jailed thrice – for almost 11 years in total! One does not even have to mention the physical and psychological abuse he went through. Mahathir, on the other hand, witnessed the colonization of Japan, and the independence of Malaya from the British in the 1940s, and has always taken anti colonialism as a main motif of his mental make up.

Mohammad Sabu, president of Amanah, too, was jailed. In his words: “I was put in under Internal Security Act, and out under Internal Security Act.” In the latter, Sabu was referring to his confinement in a small rural settlement in Negeri Sembilan way back in 1980s.

Dr Wan Azizah, the wife of Anwar Ibrahim, literally had to learn politics from the ground up, as the only way to counter check the state was to build, and form, a new party, which is how PKR came to be in 1998. One hasn’t even talked about the need to raise all the children up alone, while dabbing in national and international affairs.

Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, too, had been imprisoned before. Liew Chin Tong was water cannoned during “Reformasi,” while Tony Pua is barred from leaving the country due to his constant exposure of the grand corruption of 1MDB.

Indeed, even the likes of Elizabeth Wong in PKR was subject to various harassment, and she came out of it unscathed, thanks to the motivation and encouragement of Anwar Ibrahim to be strong. She did and she survived a harrowing episode.

Indeed, Nga Kor Ming of DAP, averred that he had lost count of the number of times he was dragged to the police station, often traversing great distances, even though he was the Member of Parliament of Taiping. Nga faintly recalled that perhaps he had been arrested close to 40 times.

In fact, if the optic is focused on the likes of Maria Chin Abdullah in Bersih, who is now running for office under a PKR ticket, her experience is no less jarring. In fact, almost all the opposition figures, including Mahathir, have had to take some hits, both emotionally, financially, and otherwise. And, if the list is enlarged to include Tian Chua, the disqualified MP of Batu, who is now appealing for a reinstatement of the right to vote, the nightmarish recollection just does not end.

Thus, it is nothing short of strange, that Najib should use “British Boarding School,” which is meant to install discipline in a privileged environment anyway, to shore up his credentials as a fighter. He might as well add to his resume the need to eat a diet of quinoa due to his severe health restrictions against eating rice.

At other times, his staffers have urged him to identify himself as a Bugis warrior. Yet when Mahathir invited Najib to various policy debates, the latter recoiled almost instantly.

Indeed, one should add that Tony Fernandez, went to a British boarding school too. Yet, against all offs, he built Air Asia as one of the best fleets in the world.

Najib went through the same experience in United Kingdom only to find himself with a chip on his shoulder, and the perennial habit to talk down to his opponents. On May 9, a super tsunami of Malaysian opposition might well give him his first experience in the school of hard knocks. Stay tuned!

Not much time left but I must make amends, Dr M says in teary video
